Biography

Phil Varone is an accomplished drummer, music producer and songwriter best known for his work with the bands Saigon Kick, Skid Row, Vince Neil and Prunella Scales.

Long Island born, Phil began his fascination with the entertainment business at a very young age.  Playing percussion in grade school, he continued polishing his drumming skills by listening and playing along to his favorite bands and drummers. Although music was an important part of his life, it was just one of many childhood dreams which included acting and standup comedy. Listening to music, comedy records and watching movies became Phil’s favorite past time. 

In 1988, Saigon Kick was formed and within two years signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records. Saigon Kick earned a Gold Record for the album, “The Lizard” as well as a Billboard top 10 single for the song, “Love is On the Way”. In 1996, Saigon Kick disbanded and Varone stayed busy producing, recording and touring with Prunella Scales. 

In 2000, Phil joined multi-platinum recording artists Skid Row. Together they toured the world with Kiss, Poison, Def Leppard, Tesla and along the way recorded a new record titled “Thick Skin.” Additionally, the band produced “Under the Skin: The Making of Thick Skin” which was internationally distributed on DVD. 

In 2004, Phil left Skid Row and the music business to pursue acting and standup comedy.  After moving to Los Angeles, Phil created and hosted the very popular Sex Stand Up Rock & Roll Show. Although new to the comedy business, Phil found a home at world famous HOLLYWOOD IMPROV. During this time, he produced and starred In the feature length documentary “Waking Up Dead ” released June, 2007. Phil also created and hosts an internet talk show called “The Master Debater” that can be seen on THESTREAM.TV. 

Phil’s passion for acting has led to roles on Californication (Showtime), a commercial for Nokia Cellular, an appearance on NBC’s Identity, E! TV, various short films and most recently VH1’s hit show Sex Rehab w/ Dr Drew, Celebrity Ghost Stories and Strange Sex on Discovery channel. Phil has also appeared on NBC news and numerous talk shows that include Oprah, Tyra Banks and The Today Show.

Phil currently lives in Los Angeles and is the cover and centerfold for the winter issue ofPlaygirl Magazineon stands now. With the release of the magazine, he’s planning to launch the “Sex Stand Up Rock N Roll show to the masses with an extensive US tour.
